Was a little leery of a rope shackle but after I received & tested out I know I made a good decision
.
I bought this for my Silverado that has closed recovery points in the front. It looks heavier duty in person. I have not used it and I hope I never need to, but if I do it looks like it will work great.
Seems simple enough. I wanted a way to hook my tow strap to my pickup tow hook loops without using a metal shackle and chewing them up.
I recently ordered 2 soft shackles and a hitch mate for my off road Ford Sport trac 2005. Soft or synthetic shackles are now required for our off road club. No metal. Even the hooks on winches have to be replaced. Soft shackles work just as well and there are no worries if a shackles or rope fails. Everyone uses them and they work great. I got 2 Rangers rated at 19,000. The other, Hitch mate goes great on my tires and I can easy reach my roof basket now without having to balance on my side steps. The customer service crew is excellent to deal with any questions. Their follow through is spot on too. Good work guys.
Haven't used it yet, but the workload rating is triple my gross weight, so I don't think there will be any problems. Shipping was quick, with accurate tracking.
I haven't had occasion to use this rope shackle in earnest, but I did hook it up to my winch and then a post to cinch it down and see how easily it released. It is exactly what was advertised, quality made and the protective cover shows the safe working load and provides good chafe protection. This will save having to double up straps on trailer hitches and then pound them out with a mallet once they cinch down on themselves. The strop has a splice in the end which slides easily to release even after having gone under load.
I used the winch rope once. The only challenge was pushing the knot through the loop to secure the shackle. Once it engaged, it worked perfectly.
